Matt's Stag Do Diary

Well what can I say? The Stag Do was awsome, certainly a weekend to remember! Matt had already found out that we were going to Edinburgh in a slight hiccup of a conversation. The account of how he found out can be found here.

Friday

We picked Matt up from his flat at 0700 on Friday 22nd July and headed to East Croydon station to meet the rest of the guys. From there we boarded another train to Gatwick airport. At this point Matt found out that we were flying, although I have a sneaky suspision that he might have already worked that one out! We met up with the remainder of the guys and have out first drink of the day once we had got through the check in and security checks.

What a first drink is was too. A free sample of Pimms at 0845 in the morning with pinkies out and everything. We then went upstairs to the bar for our first pint, time check 0855! The plane was delayed by about 30 minutes as always with EasyJet but that didn't dampen the spirits, we arrived in Edinburgh by 1245. Upon arrival everyone was issued with a set of rules for the weekend, which looked simple enough at first, but caused us much ammusement over the weekend and around £30 in fines to be spent on the Stag.

Friday afternoon was spent drinking in the pub and practicing those damn rules whilst watching the cricket. We also visited the whisky heritage center for a whisky tour and a wee dram. Friday evening saw the first of 3 outfits that Matt wore for the weekend.

Matt was handed a bag labelled 'Friday Night' which contained a black afro wig, a matching chest wig, sideburns and a gold bling chain. Before Matt opened it your could see the aprehension in his face as he said 'Dont you think it would be better to do this tomorrow night?' As soon as he saw what was in the bag a big grin appeared on his face ' I can cope with that!'

Friday night kicked off with probably the most expensive curry I've ever eaten, however it tasted fantastic so that kind of made up for it. After the curry we went for a few drinks nearer town and started enforcing those rules big time. Thumb/Dance Master was coming into it's own with fines flying all over the place. Everyone was being done for having parked their pints really badly and really obvious questions were being asked left right and center. The evening desended into drunken chaos as Mr Wiggam started Simon says!

Wiggy led the sambuca Simon says where we had to follow everything that he did. With sambuca shots loaded into our mouths Wiggy started the simon says dance. Head to the right and everyone follows, head to the left and everyone follows, and the same with gargle. Only few were still standing as Wiggy had enough and swallowed the shot. Fantastic! The same game was replayed on Saturday night but with Gin (see pictures below). What a mistake!

Simon Says with Gin! Simon Says with Gin! Simon Says with Gin!

A special mention has to go to Dave D and Stu for their road trip to get to the Stag Do. They managed to miss their flights from Stanstead and decided to drive to Edinburgh to make the Stag Do. They arrived as we got back to the hotel at about 0100 in the morning. A massive 11 hour journey from London! A valiant effort guys that wont be forgotten!

Saturday Activity

Saturday morning everyone awoke a little blurry eyed and some sore heads. Some took a bit more persuasion to get up on time (Mark and Steve) but eventually everyone congregated in the lobby ready to go. Matt was again presented with a bag, this time it was labelled 'Saturday Activity'. Matt's face had a look of concern but his eyes once again lit up when he saw what was inside. This time I believe Tim and I had excelled ourselves with a full Santa outfit, beard and everything. Before you could say 'Santa's little helper' Matt had the outfit on and was ready to go. We jumped into the taxis that were waiting and headed to the Port Royal pitch and putt course by the airport for a wee round of golf. The taxi journey was ammusing to say the least with passers by and other drivers stopping to wave to Santa... Maybe this is where Santa goes for his Hols!

The golf was a good laugh with Brummie getting the prize for most entertaining Tee Shot on the first tee - I believe 4 shots to get it anywhere near the pin. There's 2 things that will stick in my mind for a long time. The first is Wiggy and Rob literally rolling around on the ground with laughter as Brummie was teeing off on the third. The second is everytime I saw Santa on the golf course it made me laugh, the sight of Santa playing golf in July will make me smile for a long time to come everytime I think of it. Full credit to Matt though he kept the Santa constume on for the whole duration, beard and all. Even downing an Aftershock in the pub afterwards, the beard was firmly in place.

Saturday Evening

After a day of fresh air and activity it was time to get ready for the main event, Saturday night. Once again Matt was presented with a bag, this time labelled 'Saturday Night'. This time Matt was used to the routine and opened the bag with anticipation. Out came some red fish net tights, a frilly petty coat, a black maids dress and a pinafore 'I can do that' said Matt as he started putting on the tights. To top it all off Matt wore the black afro wig too, good man.

The evening started with a small pub crawl along the grass market, where Matt got chatted up by several men along the way. Nice Legs, Nice Arse etc. but the best one was the random Scottish Guy that approached Matt and asked 'Do you have any Scottish in you?' to which Matt replied 'No' to which the Scottish Guy replied 'Would you like some?' At this point Matt screamed and ran for his life!

The pub crawl (of only a couple of pubs) ended up at the 3 Sisters where the beer flowed and the music was of a very ripe gorgonzola cheese flavour. The dance floor was quite quiet to start with but it soon filled up with us all in the dancing mood. A couple of hen parties joined us which made a jubilant atmosphere. There was lots of drinking, dancing and even more singing to see the night through with at least a couple of songs dedicated to Matt, one of them being Bonjovi Living on a Prayer. Hurrah! After that it becomes a bit blurred for me, all I remember is being slapped round the face a few times as a did my party piece of sleeping on my feet whilst still dancing! A cracking night!

Sunday

Uuuurgh my head hurt, my throat was like sandpaper and my mouth was unbelievably dry. 'Did we do some singing last night Matt?' must be why my throat hurst soooo much. Most people appeared to be in similar ways, although for some reason Brummie had a big smile on his face. Partly this was because he was still drunk and the hangover had not yet kicked in, but the main reason was due to his bathroom antics the night before. Enough said! The flight was strangely quite as everyone recovered from the hangovers. The turbulance certainly did not help matters. We all made it back though and just about in one piece. A great weekend all round!

Thanks to everyone for coming on the weekend with a special mention to Dave D and Stu for their galliant efforts to make it Edinburgh on time. Cheers guys!

Matt's Stag Do Forum

The forum area is the part of the website that Matt couldn't access before the Stag Do. So all the information displayed in the forum was secret from Matt until NOW! Matt agreed (well I must admit he didn't have much say in the matter) that we could keep as much of the details about the Stag Do secret from him until the actual event.

I've now added Matt to the forum as a member so by logging in, everyone that went on the Stag can continue chatting and reminising about the Stag Do. Enjoy!
